Frequently Asked Questions About Breathwork & Aromatherapy

Q: HOW DOES BREATHWORK WORK?
A: After a short interview, you will be guided into a breath technique (breathing through the mouth without pause between the in-breath and out-breath) that is done mainly lying down. Your body  charges up with energy, which facilitates the unblocking of tension, emotion, trauma and/or prompts a full-body release. Each session is different and includes varying physical exercises to help you breathe more fully. The facilitator gently supports you throughout the session.

Q: WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF BREATHWORK?
A: Breathwork is an effective treatment for a wide variety of psychological as well as physiological problems. Below is a list of disorders for which breathwork is effective:

  • Abuse/Trauma
  • Addictions/Pain
  • Alcohol
  • Anxiety
  • Asthma
  • Depression
  • Eating Disorders/Emotional Eating
  • Emotional and Sleep
  • Faith/Spirituality
  • Fatigue
  • Headaches, Migraines
  • Infertility
  • Insomnia
  • Life Changes/Transitions
  • Phobias
  • Stiff Neck and Shoulders
  • Stomachache
  • Stress
  • Weight Loss

Q: DOES BREATHWORK HAVE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?
A: No, one of the significant advantages of breathwork is the absence of side effects.

Q: HOW DOES BREATHWORK FEEL?
A: Every breath session is different. What you can expect to feel during a breath session is tingling in your body, cathartic release, nervous system release such as mild trembling, feelings of being hot or cold or just a floating sensation.  Once you have completed the rapid breathing and are in a more relaxed state, most patients experience a feeling of refreshment, deep relaxation and/or a state of euphoria.

Q: IS THERE A SET NUMBER OF TREATMENTS?
A: Since each person is unique, the number of treatments varies depending on the nature of your condition, its severity, how long it has been present and your vitality.  Each breathwork program is tailored specifically for you and is geared toward the best outcome. Usually six to 10 sessions are effective enough to see major changes. After three sessions, you and your facilitator assess together the breathwork program and make any necessary adjustments. Some people like to do all the breathwork sessions at once, while others like to divide their sessions with talk therapy to help process all that has been released.  Following a series of breathwork sessions, traditional psychotherapy also is used by some clients who want to process further, while others do not feel the need to continue with therapy at all. However, the opportunity for psychotherapy is there as the facilitator works with you to help ensure you have the best experience.

Q: WHAT TECHNIQUES ARE USED?
A: Bioenergetic exercises are used to warm up the body as well as other experiential techniques that help connect the body and mind. Once the body has been warmed up, the breath session begins.

Q: DO YOU TREAT ADDICTIONS?
A: Yes, breathwork is a great tool to help heal addictions.

Q: WILL I FEEL RESULTS IMMEDIATELY?
A: The results of breathwork are immediate yet subtle. You may see changes in your demeanor or behavior, a greater awareness of what is happening in your life and an opening of your body and breath. In terms of greater changes, that depends on you and where you are in the process.

Q: HOW DOES BREATHWORK WORK IN CONJUNCTION WITH PSYCHOTHERAPY OR HYPNOTHERAPY?
A: Breathwork works in conjunction with any type of psychotherapy method. It accesses your deep inner healing to promote change. It uses body, mind and spirit and taps into your innate healing ability to promote the change you are looking for in your life.

 Q: HOW DOES AROMATHERAPY WORK?
A:  Aromatherapy works on the olfactory system, which is connected to the lymphatic system and which controls emotions.  Aromatherapy stimulates the body’s natural healing response to restore normal, balanced physiological function.  We offer our signature aromatherapy blend as well as other aromatherapy blends, tailored to your specific condition.

Q: WHAT IS AN AROMATHERAPY SESSION?
A: Our aromatherapy sessions are designed to rejuvenate your mind, body and spirit. Each session  combines gentle music, aromatherapy oils, gentle breathing, light touch and healing sound. This integration helps you clear your mind and relax your body in a gentle yet deep way.

Q: WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AROMATHERAPY AND BREATHWORK?
A: Aromatherapy is a more gentle process and is designed for individuals who are looking to relax and settle into themselves in order to gain clarity and peace of mind.  Breathwork is a stronger process that helps you tap into deeper layers of your subconscious in order to create transformation in your life.

   Testimonials

"I have gone to many therapists and in six months I couldn't get to where I got in just one breath session"

"Being supported by Debbie in a breath session is a profound experience. I find that she is very in tune and aware on multiple levels of what is unfolding for me and I feel safe to access deep memories, traumas and emotions that I'm ready to work through. Working with Debbie has definitely accelerated my personal evolution process. It takes a very skilled therapist to support a client with such presence. I am grateful to be her client."
